At Children’s Cancer Association (CCA), we know it takes more than medicine to treat cancer and serious illness. When a child is facing life’s most challenging moments, they also need emotional healing. Since our founding in Portland, Oregon in 1995, our flagship JoyRx Music program has recognized the need to address emotional wellness alongside a child’s medical care and has empowered thousands of young patients to find healing and joy through music. In this session, CCA staff and a Child Life specialist from a US pediatric hospital will share new, accessible ways to bring music medicine into the hospital and clinic setting. Attendees will learn how live and digital music services are designed to benefit patients and will experience firsthand the engaging and powerful music programming themselves. CCA will also share assessment efforts to measure the power of music to positively shifting the emotional wellbeing of hospitalized youth.
