Music listening interventions are utilized in a wide variety of clinical settings to help patients manage stress, anxiety, pain, discomfort as well as attendant influences on sedative exposure, delirium, and cognitive functioning. While the body of research regarding the use of music-based listening interventions continues to grow, there is a paucity of information in the literature about specific music used for listening interventions. This poster will detail the process of designing a music listening intervention, selecting and programming the music for the intervention, and determining the method of delivery for the intervention. The presenters will detail the process of selecting and programming music for a five-year randomized controlled trial for mechanically ventilated patients to address delirium. This process will include determining music genres, analyzing musical elements, and curating playlists to maximize therapeutic benefit.
